Deivathinte Swantham Cleatus (God's Own Cleatus) is another in the line of
a silent trend.
Plot: I searched a lot to find it, at last what I found is - A drama group
(includes a Father) finds a local goonda, Cleatus (but even Police
Superintendent is afraid of him) to play the role of Jesus. O Jesus. To their
surprise lot of unexpected things happened following his arrival.
Mammootty, here also as usual tried his best to hold the movie together but the
poorly written script had very thin scope for him. This film is the first big
mistake of Aju Varghese in his career. After this, I think, more people will offer him
such small useless roles. Sad. Suraaj was good in two emotional scenes but those
scenes ended up as an attempted comedy. Apart from them, there are few characters
who comes throughout the film with no aim or way.
The basic idea of the movie is good which is similar to Munnabhai MBBS and the
narration kind they selected is also good, ditto to Rang De Basanti but the
movie falls from a dangerous height from the very first frame. Script,
background music, editing and supporting actors performances spoiled any chance
to become Cleatus an average movie.
Script is very poor, when you
know it is written by a professional, it is really shocking. Characterization is so
poor that some people's mannerisms and character just changes from one scene to
the other. Apart from the script, it is the music, especially background music
which gives you headache. So irritating, the tempo changes every now and then,
sometimes within two or 5 seconds. Do people really think using ding dong dong
music during a scene will make viewers laugh.!
Really sad to see a great actor again in such a forgettable role. Watching this
film makes me wonder if anyone besides Mammootty even cared about what they were
doing!. Sad for Mr. Marthandan also. Could have selected a better script. Hope
he will be soon coming with a good film with no usual formulaic methods.
Overall - a massive disappointment.
`Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus` is directed by debutante director Marthandan and scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam. Set against the backdrop of theatre, Mammootty plays the title role of Cleetus, a theatre artiste. Honey Rose is paired opposite Mammootty.
