The trailer of Akshay Kumar's upcoming sports drama 'Gold' has been creating
waves ever since its release.
It garnered immense appreciation not just from
the critics and Bollywood celebs, but Hockey player Balbir Singh Sr. as well.
Singh liked the trailer so much that he couldn't stop himself from penning down
a heartfelt letter.
The hockey legend took to his Facebook page to praise the
movie, writing, "THE GREATEST DAY IN THE HISTORY OF INDIAN SPORTS! INDIA
participated in 1948 London Olympics AS AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY FOR THE VERY
FIRST TIME! "
The letter further read,"On 12th of August, 1948 -Indian Hockey
Team Played the Olympic Finals against Britain at Wembley Stadium, London & won!
It was the FIRST EVER match in the Olympics between former Champions ( our
former rulers) England & ( their "GULAMS" just a year before!) INDIA and that
too, in their capital city of London!"
For the unversed, Singh was one of
the most important players who participated in 1948 London Olympics and helped
India win its first Gold medal in Hockey as an independent nation.
'Gold'
traces the journey of Tapan Das, the man who dreamt of winning India's first
gold in Hockey, post-independence. India won its first gold medal as an
independent nation at the Olympics on August 12, 1948.
The sports drama,
starring the 'Rustom' actor, takes the audience back in time to witness the
struggle of a team to make the nation proud.
The upcoming flick will release
this Independence Day, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Free India's
first gold medal at the 1948 Olympics.
The film boasts of an ensemble cast
including Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh, and Sunny Kaushal, among
others. 'Gold' will also mark the debut of TV sensation Mouni Roy on the big
screen.
