Putting an end to speculation about who will play the role of writer Kamala Das in the upcoming biopic, 'Aami', director Kamal announced that Actress Manju Warrier was chosen as the lead actress to play the role.

Earlier, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan was roped in to play Kamala Das in the movie, but she backed out of the film unexpectedly, just five days before the commencement of the shoot. There are several roumours spreading out that prompted Vidya to opt out. Following this, several other actresses like Parvathy and Tabu were rumoured to do the role but Kamal slammed the reports and said that the actresses are not approached for Aami.

The film’s shooting will begin on March and expected to hit screen on Onam. The shooting of Aami is scheduled to be held at Ottappalam, Ernakulam, Mumbai and Kolkata.

A debutant actress will also play the role of Madhavikutty during her teenage years. The rest of the cast includes Prithviraj, Anoop Menon and Murali Gopi. Veteran Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar is composing music for Aami.

This is Manju Warrier's third film with Kamal after 'Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu' and 'Ee Puzhayum Kadannu'. She made a comeback to Mollywood in 2014 after a 14-year sabbatical following her marriage to actor Dileep who started his film career as an assistant director to Kamal.
