Dhanush's 'Maari' sequel on cards

Actress-filmmaker Geethu Mohandas has won the Global Filmmaking award at the Sundance Film Festival 2016.

Besides Geethu, who was elected for the award for her upcoming feature "Insha' Allah", the award was also presented to Cuban filmmaker Armando Capo abd Italian filmmakers Antonio Piazza, Fabio Grassadonia and Moroccan filmmaker Abdellah Taia.

The award winners were announced by Sundance institute on its website.

The award is aimed at honouring and supporting some of the most impactful emerging filmmakers from around the world.

Geethu's "Insha' Allah" is about a young boy from Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea on an adventure to the mainland in order to find his older brother.

Last year, Indian filmmaker Shonali Bose won the same award for her film "Margarita with a Straw".
