Movie Review by PS
Arjun (Rating : 2/5)
Plot: Mammootty plays the title role Mathukutty, an NRI in the film who
is settled in Germany after marrying a nurse. Mathukutty is jobless and his
wife is always harsh to him. He had a love failure before his marriage. Mathukutty
is sent to Kerala to bring Mohanlal for a function in Germany. Brother of the
girl with whom Mathukutty was in love want to kill him. The film is all about
how all these situations subside.
Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty is directed by one of the most respected Malayalam film directors of this era, 'Ranjith', and has a great line-up of artists like Mammootty, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suresh Krishna, Bhalachandra Menon, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Shekar, Meera Nandan etc... Still, the film had much lesser publicity compared to other Eid releases. I wondered why! The film gives the answer for that too.
Watch it for -
* Mohanlal and Mammootty combination scene.
* The biggest surprise and the most attractive part of the film comes immediatly
after this combination scene.
The story looks interesting at first-look but fails in all means, thanks to the poor script. It's hard to believe that the film is directed by Ranjith. In addition to this, overall, the film is effected badly due to terrible back-ground score, slap-stick comedy scenes, poor characterization and very average performances. Dileep's guest role was simply wasted and so is all the artists in the line-up. Too much of artists but no characters to perform. Story moves nowhere especially because the characters hardly gets free time from drinks. Except Meera, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Bhalachandra Menon and three or four characters, all others are shown drinking.
It is boring to the core. Loads of loose ends and tons of logical mistakes.
