Chirpy Sonam Kapoor, the eldest daughter of actor Anil Kapoor
and Sunita Kapoor was born on 9th June1985 at Chembur, Mumbai.
Sonam did her schooling in Mumbai and graduated in Economics
and Political Science from Bombay University, and then again in Theater Arts and
Chinese History from United World College of East Asia in Singapore.
Her initial interests were in writing and Direction and she
assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the making of 'Black', his 2005
release. In fact it was he who saw the actor in her and gave her chance as a
heroine in 'Saawariya' (2007) which unfortunately was a failure at the box
office. But she was nominated for the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for
her performance.
After her debut movie many believed Sonam would find it hard
to survive in Bollywood. But the lovely lass trained in Kathak, classical music
and Latin dance, has worked on her looks, and is back with ace director Rakeysh
Omprakash Mehra's semi autobiographical, Delhi 6 (2009), opposite Abhishek
Bachchan.
Sonam is still young and she will have ample
opportunities to prove herself in the years to come ...
