This 6'3 feet tall, dark and handsome Abhishek Bachchan,
son of veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and actress Jaya
Bachchan, began his early years of education at the Bombay
Scottish School, continued at Jamnabhai and finished studying
at Aiglon School in Switzerland. Since he was interested in
acting and his father supported his decision, he stopped
studying business in United States and joined Films.
Abhishek made his debut in Bollywood with the movie
'Refugee' opposite to Kareena Kapoor in 2000. Though
the movie was not considered a success, he was liked by the
audiences and the critics respectively. His early list of
movies include films like Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya (2000), Dhai
Akshar Prem Ke (2000), Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai (2001), Shararat
(2001), Desh (2002), Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), Mumbai Se Aaya Mera
Dost etc. But none of them were box-office hits. At that time
he was struggling for a blockbuster which can prove his
talent. Meanwhile he got engaged to Karishma Kapoor in 2002
but their relationship was mutually broken off before the
engagement without any explanations by both parties.
He got the role of a Captain Vikram Batra in L.O.C Kargil
(2003), which was a worthwhile experience for him and he did
justice to his role. His next film was Zameen (2003), a movie
touching the Indo-Pak terrorism, in which he enacted the role
of a police officer, who is on the trail of a mob involved in
smuggling arms into the city, very well.
In 2004, it was his performance in Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva'
proved his mettle as an actor of caliber. His performance
earned him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award as well as
other supporting actor awards at some of the major film award
functions. Yash Raj Films's Dhoom, a thriller loosely based on
a Hollywood flick, was another hit in the same year. In 2005,
he shot to fame with four consecutive hits, Bunty Aur Babli,
Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster.
His first 2006 release, the Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna multi-starrer
received mixed reaction at the box office. His second release
Umrao Jaan failed to do well at the box office and the third
Dhoom 2, a sequel to his first hit Dhoom has done very well at
the box office.
For him 2007 started with a huge hit film Guru and he has
received much acclaim for his performance and the film has
emerged his first true solo hit at the box office.
He is the epitome of a gentleman and like his father and
grandfather before him, Abhishek is a complete ladies man as
well. Recently, much media attention has focused on Bachchan's
alleged romantic involvement with fellow Bollywood celebrity
and Miss World 1994, Aishwarya Rai and was frequently seen in
public with her and his family, fueling rumors of an
engagement. After much gossips concerning their relationship,
his engagement to Indian actress Aishwarya Rai was announced
on January 14, 2007. The event was heavily covered by the
media. And finally they got married on April 20, 2007 in a
private ceremony that was held at 'Prateeksha'.
Now he is on top geer in his career. No doubt Abhishek will
emerge as the rightful heir to the awesome legacy his parents
have left behind!
