Renowned play back singer Gayathri Ashokan tied knot with Purbayan Chatterjee, a famous Bengali sitarist and music director at Thrissur. The marriage was held on Sunday, 4th December 2016 and the ceremonies took place at Thrissur’s Paramekkavu temple. Friends and close relatives graced the function.
The 37-year-old Gayatri Asokan is a trained Carnatic singer, who has won the Kerala state film award for the song 'Enthe Nee Kanna' from Sasneham Sumitra in 2003. She has performed at various prestigious stages and has sung several popular songs like 'Chanjadi Aadi in Makalkku, 'Thumbikkinnaram' from Naran, 'Deenadayalo Raama' and 'Pularumo' from Ritu. She also has lent her voice to several jingles and has produced albums. An ardant devotee of Ravi Shankar, Gayathri is an active participant in Art of Living programmes all over the world.
Well-known composer from Kolkata, Purbayan Chatterjee is known for fusing Indian classical music with contemporary world music genres. Chatterjee also won the Presidents’ award for the best instrumentalist at the age of 15. Both, Gayatri and Purbayan has performed together at several events too. This is both Purbayan and Gayatri’s second marriage.
